AUTOMOBILE MARKET OF RUSSIA IN NOVEMBER AND JANUARY-NOVEMBER 2024
PASSENGER CARS, LIGHT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES AND PICKUPS
In November 2024, sales of new passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and pickups in Russia grew by 11.3% year-on-year to 133 313 vehicles. In January-November 2024, the total sales were 1 553 217 vehicles, up 51.5% year-on-year.*
Sales results by type of motor vehicles:
• Passenger cars – 119 335 units in November 2024, up 9.8% YOY; 1 429 333 units in January-November 2024, up 53.4%. Among them electric vehicles (BEV) – 1 037 units in November 2024, down 40.0% YOY; 16 741 units in January-November 2024, up 35.0% YOY.
• Light commercial vehicles including light trucks (N1 category, without pickups) and minibuses (M2 category) – 11 387 units in November 2024, up 22.5% YOY; 97 328 units in January-November 2024, up 24.7% YOY. Among them electric vehicles (BEV) – 3 units in November 2024, down 40.0% YOY; 48 units in January-November 2024, down 14.3% YOY.
• Pickups – 2 591 units in November 2024, up 43.1% YOY; 26 556 units in January-November 2024, up 69.7% YOY.

Vasily Sein, Head of the Market Research Centre at ASM Holding, commented:
According to ASM Holding analytic company, sales of light vehicles on the Russian market in the first 11 months of 2024 only grew by 11.3% year-on-year, which reflects significally slowing sales by the end of the year. We estimate the total car, LCV and pickup sales in 2024 to be at least within 1.65 to 1.70 million units, that is due to growing consumer demand by the year-end caused by expectation of raising the scrappage fee in 2025.
Sales of new passenger cars showed the greatest fall. They dropped by 29% (48 900 units) in comparison with October 2024. The share of cars produced in China accounts for 59% of the market, while the share of Russian brands is 32%, of which 28% belong to LADA. Sales of new electric vehicles (BEVs) in January-November 2024 increased by 35% in comparison with the result of the first 11 months of 2023 (16 741 units). The top-3 best selling passenger car brands in 11 months of 2024 include LADA (402 thou. units), HAVAL (176.6 thou. units), and CHERY (145.4 thou. units). The best selling new electric vehicles are of ZEEKR brand (7.3 thou. units).
We noted a 69.7% year-on-year increase of new pickup sales in January-November 2024, the result being 49% better than the total annual sales in 2023 (17 829 units). The top-3 best selling pickup brands in 11 months of 2024 include GREAT WALL (6426 units), JAC (5301 units), and UAZ (3675 units). Sales of new passenger cars and pickups in 2024 will exceed 1.5 million units.
Sales in the segment of light commercial vehicles grew by 22.5% in November and by 24.7% year-to-date. The best sales performance this year were shown by domestic brands GAZ, UAZ and SOLLERS. The best selling year-to-date LCV model is GAZelle NEXT (33 thousande units, up 10%). We expect growth of LCV sales in 2024 by 19% over the previous year’s result to exceed 105 thousand units.

TRUCKS AND BUSES
In November and in January-November 2024, sales of new trucks and buses in Russia showed the following results*:
• Trucks (except light trucks, N1 category) including special-purpose vehicles – 9 399 units in November 2024, down 23.9% YOY; 117 479 units in January-November 2024, down 10.7% YOY.
• Buses and coaches (except minibuses, M2 category) – 1 657 units in November 2024, up 22.7% YOY; 17 495 units in January-November 2024, up 17.3%. Among them – electric buses: 86 units in November 2024, up 8.9% YOY; 1 008 units in January-November 2024, up 186.4% YOY.

Vasily Sein, Head of the Market Research Centre at ASM Holding, commented:
According to ASM Holding analytic company, sales of trucks on the Russian market in November 2024 fell by 31% on the previous month to 9.4 thousand vehicles. Total truck sales year-to-date decreased by 10.7%, while sales of domestic-branded trucks decreased by 18.3% totaling 31.6 thousand vehicles. The share of China-produced trucks in sales volume of 11 months 2024 is 60%, while the share of Russian brands is 27% of the market. The top 3 best selling brands are KAMAZ, SITRAK and SHAANXI. Taking into account high sales results of 2023 (144 219 units sold), as well as raising the scrappage fees and credit rates, we expect a decline of annual sales in this segment through 2024 by 10-12% from the level reached in 2023.
Bus sales on the Russian market grew by 17.3% in the first eleven months of the year. The top 3 best selling year-to-date brands are PAZ (up 28.6%), LIAZ (up 59.3%) and YUTONG (up 11.7%). The very best selling bus model is PAZ VECTOR NEXT (3.4 thousand units sold in 11 months 2024). The number of URAL 3255 work-team buses sold in 11 months 2024 was 105 units.
Sales of new electric buses in January-November 2024 grew by 186.4% year-on-year, and the top 3 best-sellers were domestic brands KAMAZ, LIAZ, NEFAZ.
Bus sales in the first eleven months of the year have already exceeded the result of 2023 (17 069 units), and the annual bus sales in Russia in 2024 are to be more than 19 thousand vehicles.
