Manturov: Car production and sales will shrink by 15-30% in Russia in 2020

Prime.- Car production and sales will shrink by between 15-30% in Russia in 2020, however, it’s hard to make a more precise prediction as yet, said the Russian Minister of Industry and Commerce Denis Manturov during an interview.

“A shrinkage will happen, unfortunately. We understand and foresee the fact and predict the rate between 15-30%. To give an exact figure is hard for the moment, however, we can evaluate the situation roughly through a range of existing indicators” – as told by the minister.

As stated by Manturov, a significant amount of 25 billion rubles has been allocated as a support measure for the automotive industry currently. The measures in the form of government procurements in advance and regional programmes of the Ministry of Transport on upgrading the public transport will be sufficient to support the industry, according to the calculations of the minister.

The sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles have fallen by 2.3% to 1.76 million automobiles in Russia in 2019, according to AEB data. As stated by Rosstat, on the other hand, car production has shrunk by 2.5% to 1.5 million units and trucks by 1.1% to 156,000 units.
