Russia’s bus output down 5.4% in January-March 2013

Bus production (including minibuses and “work-team buses” on truck chassis) in Russia fell 5.4% year on year to 10.4 thousand units in the first three months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 7.7 thousand vehicles (down 16.5%), while foreign-brand bus output rose 51.1% to 2.7 thousand units.

Russia’s truck output down 9.6% in the first three months of 2013

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia fell 9.6% year on year to 38.5 thousand units in January-March 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 32.8 thousand units (down 10.7%), and foreign-brand truck output was 5.7 thousand units (down 2.6%).

Russia’s car output up 1.5% in January-March 2013

Passenger car production in Russia rose 1.5% year on year to 457.5 thousand units in January-March 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total, output of domestic car models was up just 0.5% to 140.6 thousand units, while foreign-brand car output rose 2.0% to 316.9 thousand units.

Total output of motor vehicles in Russia flat in January-March 2013

Russia’s total production of motor vehicles (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) added just 0.5% year on year to 506.4 thousand units in the first quarter of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts’ data. A slight growth of passenger car production is reported while output of both trucks and buses posted a fall.

Current forecast of vehicle production in Russia for 2013

Based on the manufacturers’ results in January-February, ASM Holding analysts give their current annualized Russia vehicle production forecast for the full year 2013: passenger cars – 1,985,694 units (of them foreign models 1,337,135 units); trucks – 202,834 units (of them foreign models 31,221 units); buses – 57,347 units (of them foreign models 10,225 units). The forecast of car production surpasses the last five years’ best result (1,968,789 units in 2012) by 0.9%, while annual forecasts of truck and bus output yield to the best production results of 2008 by 20.1% and 14.4% respectively.

Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 4.5 thousand vehicles (down 8.8%), while foreign-brand bus output was 1.7 thousand units (up 41.6%).

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia fell 13.7% year on year to 21.3 thousand units in January-February 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 17.9 thousand units (down 16.8%), and foreign-brand truck output was 3.4 thousand units (up 5.9%).

Passenger car production in Russia rose 5.9% year on year to 294.9 thousand units in January-February 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total, output of domestic car models rose 10.0% to 92.6 thousand units, while foreign-brand car output was up 4.1% to 202.3 thousand units.

Bus production (including minibuses and “work-team buses” on truck chassis) in Russia declined 13.1% year on year to 2.1 thousand units in the first month of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 1.4 thousand vehicles (down 28.8%), while foreign-brand bus output was 0.7 thousand units (up 44.9%).

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia declined 12.1% year on year to 7.4 thousand units in January 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 5.9 thousand units (down 22.4%), and foreign-brand truck output was 1.5 thousand units (up 83.1%).

Passenger car production in Russia rose 12.3% year on year to 133.5 thousand units in January 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total, output of domestic car models was up 14.6% to 38.5 thousand units, while foreign-brand car output rose 11.4% to 95.0 thousand units.

Russia’s total production of motor vehicles (combined output of cars, trucks and buses) rose 10.2% year on year to 143.0 thousand units in the first month of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts’ data.

Bus sales in Russia up 14.0% in 2012

The results of the full year 2012 evidence that the bus market (including minibus sales) was recovering at a higher growth rate compared to the car and truck markets. The 2012 bus sales grew by 14.0% on the year to 69,194 vehicles. In the market structure by bus classes, a move continued towards extra-small class buses (minibuses), with expansion of their market share to 58.5% from 56.5% in January-December 2011. The total bus market growth was due to domestic models whose sales were up 28.8% on the year to 43,693 buses, and their market share expanded by 7.3 points to 63.2%. The higher sales growth rate in the bus sector (mainly thanks to domestic products) determined reaching the bus sales level of 2008 and even exceeding it by 2.2%. The bus sector is the first and still only one sector of the Russian auto market that has managed to restore the pre-crisis sales level.

Truck sales in Russia up 9.5% in 2012

Truck wholesales were 359.92 thousand units in January-December 2012, up 9.5% on the year. Absolute sales growth was registered in all segments of the truck market, however the largest segment of domestic-branded trucks showed only a token growth by 0.6% to 162.63 thousand units. The market share of this segment lost four points to 45.2%. Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia grew from 21.45 thousand units to 28.76 thousand units, and their market share added 1.5 points to reach 8.0%. The cumulative share of locally produced trucks (both domestic and foreign models) shrank from 55.7% to 53.2%. New imports rose by 16.3% to 150.43 thousand trucks, and their share expanded by 2.4 points to 41.8%. Used imports were up 11.9% to 18.10 thousand trucks, and their share added 0.1 point to reach 5.0%.
