Russia’s automobile market down 9.0% in the first five months of 2013

A downward trend found in results of three previous months continued and aggravated on the Russian automobile market in May 2013. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 9.0% year on year to 1,206.2 thousand units in January-May 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts.

Total output of motor vehicles in Russia down 3.4% in January-May 2013

Russia’s total production of motor vehicles (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) fell 3.4% year on year to 860.7 thousand units in the first five months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts’ data. A decline of production is reported through all sectors of the automotive industry.

Current forecast of vehicle production in Russia for 2013

Based on the manufacturers’ results in January-April, ASM Holding analysts adjust downwards their earlier annualized Russia vehicle production forecast for the full year 2013. The current 2013 output forecast is as follows: passenger cars – 1,805,536 units (of them foreign models 1,346,671 units); trucks – 184,214 units (of them foreign models 31,965 units); buses – 51,772 units (of them foreign models 10,799 units). The forecast of car production lags behind the last five years’ best result (1,968,789 units in 2012) by 8.3%, while annual forecasts of truck and bus output yield to the best production results of 2008 by 27.4% and 22.7% respectively.

Bus sales in Russia down 18.8% in the first four months of 2013

Bus wholesales fell 18.8% year on year to 16.4 thousand vehicles in January-April 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Sales of domestic-branded buses were down 15.9% to 10.5 thousand units; however, their market share expanded to 63.9% from 61.7% a year earlier, thus confirming this segment’s dominance on the bus market. Sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia were up 1.6 times to 3.8 thousand units to expand their market share two-fold to 23.2%. New imports reduced two-fold to 2.0 thousand buses, and their market share lost 7 points to make 12.4%. Used imports contracted drastically, 17-fold to only 84 buses, and their market share squeezed to 0.5% from 7.2% in January-April 2012.

Russia’s bus output down 3.2% in January-April 2013

Bus production (including minibuses and “work-team buses” on truck chassis) in Russia fell 3.2% year on year to 15.5 thousand units in the first four months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 11.7 thousand vehicles (down 14.6%), while foreign-brand bus output rose 63.1% to 3.8 thousand units.

Truck sales in Russia down 11.0% in the first four months of 2013

Truck wholesales were 88.3 thousand units in January-April 2012, down 11.0% on the year, according to ASM Holding analysts. Sales of domestic-branded trucks were down 2.8% to 45.9 thousand units, while their market share added 4.4 points to make 52.0%. Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia grew by 31.8% to 8.6 thousand units, and their market share added 3.2 points to make 9.7%. New imports declined by 20.3% to 31.2 thousand trucks and their market share lost 4.1 points to make 35.4%. Used imports contracted 2.4 times to 2.6 thousand trucks, and their share squeezed 2.2 times to 2.9%.

Russia’s truck output down 3.3% in January-April 2013

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia fell 3.3% year on year to 58.7 thousand units in January-April 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 50.5 thousand units (down 4.8%), and foreign-brand truck output was 8.2 thousand units (up 7.1%).

Car sales in Russia down 5.1% in the first four months of 2013

Passenger car wholesales fell 5.1% year on year to 856.1 thousand units in January-April 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Sales of domestic models fell 11.6% to 167.6 thousand units, and their market share reduced to 19.6% from 21.0%. Sales of locally assembled foreign models grew by 4.5% to 423.8 thousand units, and their market share expanded by 4.5 points to 49.5%. Sales of imported new foreign cars were down 13.7% to 262.3 thousand units, and their market share declined by 3.1 points to 30.6%. The share of used vehicles remained at 0.3% of the car market.

Russia’s car output up 0.4% in January-April 2013

Passenger car production in Russia rose just 0.4% year on year to 623.4 thousand units in January-April 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total, output of domestic car models was down 7.9% to 180.2 thousand units, while foreign-brand car output rose 4.2% to 443.2 thousand units.

A downward trend found in results of Q1 2013 continued on the Russian automobile market in April 2013. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 5.9% year on year to 960.8 thousand units in January-April 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts.

Russia’s total production of motor vehicles (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) added just 0.02% year on year to 697.5 thousand units in the first four months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts’ data. A slight growth of passenger car production is reported while output of both trucks and buses posted a fall.

Current forecast of vehicle production in Russia for 2013

Based on the manufacturers’ results in January-March, ASM Holding analysts give their current annualized Russia vehicle production forecast for the full year 2013: passenger cars – 1,976,750 units (of them foreign models 1,335,882 units); trucks – 202,415 units (of them foreign models 31,123 units); buses – 56,725 units (of them foreign models 10,435 units). The forecast of car production surpasses the last five years’ best result (1,968,789 units in 2012) by only 0.4%, while annual forecasts of truck and bus output yield to the best production results of 2008 by 20.3% and 15.4% respectively.

Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 7.7 thousand vehicles (down 16.5%), while foreign-brand bus output rose 51.1% to 2.7 thousand units.

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia fell 9.6% year on year to 38.5 thousand units in January-March 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 32.8 thousand units (down 10.7%), and foreign-brand truck output was 5.7 thousand units (down 2.6%).
