Russia’s wholesale automobile market down 11.3% in January-October 2013

October was the eighth consecutive month of a decline on the Russian automobile market caused by the slowing economic growth. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 11.3% year on year to 2,468.2 thousand units in January-October 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts.

Total output of motor vehicles in Russia down 3.1% in the first ten months of 2013

Russia’s total production of motor vehicles (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) fell 3.1% year on year to 1,781.0 thousand units in January-October 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts’ data. A decline of production is reported through all sectors of the automotive industry.

Current forecast of vehicle production in Russia for 2013

Based on the manufacturers’ results in January-September, ASM Holding analysts have corrected their Russia vehicle production forecast for the full year 2013. The current 2013 output forecast is as follows: passenger cars – 1,924,343 units (of them foreign models 1,352,822 units); trucks – 197,230 units (of them foreign models 29,707 units); buses – 56,728 units (of them foreign models 11,955 units). The forecast of car production lags behind the last five years’ best result (1,968,789 units in 2012) by 2.3%, while annual forecasts of truck and bus output yield to the best production results of 2008 by 22.3% and 15.4% respectively.

Bus sales in Russia down 16.6% in the first nine months of 2013

Bus wholesales fell 16.6% year on year to 42.2 thousand vehicles in January-September 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Sales of domestic-branded buses dominated the market with 28.2 thousand units and a 66.8% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 8.6 thousand units and a 20.5% share. New imports were 5.2 thousand buses (12.3%), and used imports were only 184 buses with a 0.4% market share.

Russia’s bus output down 2.6% in January-September 2013

Bus production (including minibuses and “work-team buses” on truck chassis) in Russia fell 2.6% year on year to 39.1 thousand units in the first nine months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total production figure, output of domestic models was 30.5 thousand vehicles (down 9.3%), while foreign-brand bus output rose 31.6% to 8.6 thousand units.

Truck sales in Russia down 19.3% in the first nine months of 2013

Truck wholesales were 213.9 thousand units in January-September 2013, down 19.3% on the year, according to ASM Holding analysts. Domestic-branded trucks took the biggest market share (110.3 thousand units; 51.6%). Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 20.4 thousand units, or 9.5% of the market. New imports were 76.9 thousand trucks (35.9%), and used imports were 6.3 thousand trucks (3.0% of the market).

Russia’s truck output down 5.3% in January-September 2013

Truck production (including chassis-cabs and light trucks) in Russia fell 5.3% year on year to 140.7 thousand units in the first nine months of 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Out of the total production figure, domestic truck output was 120.7 thousand units (down 6.0%), and foreign-brand truck output was 20.0 thousand units (down 1.1%).

Car sales in Russia down 10.6% in the first nine months of 2013

Passenger car wholesales fell 10.6% year on year to 1,935.1 thousand units in January-September 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 382.2 thousand units (19.7% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 957.8 thousand units (49.5%); imported new foreign cars – 587.9 thousand units (30.4%); used imports – 7.2 thousand units (0.4% of the car market).

Russia’s car output down 3.2% in January-September 2013

Passenger car production in Russia fell 3.2% year on year to 1,391.4 thousand units in January-September 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Of the total, output of domestic car models was down 14.6% to 401.0 thousand units, while foreign-brand car output rose 2.4% to 990.5 thousand units.

A downward trend, which appeared last March, continued on the Russian automobile market through September 2013, albeit slowing down in comparison with the last August results. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 11.7% year on year to 2,191.2 thousand units in January-September 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts.

Bus sales in Russia down 17.8% in the first eight months of 2013

Bus (including minibus) wholesales fell 17.8% year on year to 37.0 thousand vehicles in January-August 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts. Sales of domestic-branded buses dominated the market with 24.3 thousand units and a 65.8% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 7.8 thousand units and a 21.0% share. New imports were 4.7 thousand buses (12.7%), and used imports were only 169 buses with a 0.5% market share.

Truck sales in Russia down 22.3% in the first eight months of 2013

Truck wholesales were 188.9 thousand units in January-August 2013, down 22.3% on the year, according to ASM Holding analysts. Domestic-branded trucks grabbed the biggest market share (96.7 thousand units; 51.1%). Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 17.1 thousand units, or 9.1% of the market. New imports were 69.5 thousand trucks (36.8%), and used imports were 5.6 thousand trucks (3.0% of the market).

The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 335.2 thousand units (19.6% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 842.7 thousand units (49.3%); imported new foreign cars – 524.8 thousand units (30.7%); used imports – 6.3 thousand units (0.4% of the car market).

A downward trend, which appeared last March and was caused by slowing economic growth, continued and aggravated on the Russian automobile market through August 2013. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 13.1% year on year to 1,934.9 thousand units in January-August 2013, according to ASM Holding analysts.
